Last Bus to Woodstock by Colin Dexter, "[Morse is] the most prickly, conceited, and genuinely brilliant detective since Hercule Poirot." --The New York Times Book Review "YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW MORSE UNTIL YOU'VE READ HIM. . . . Viewers who have enjoyed British actor John Thaw as Morse in the PBS Mystery! anthology series should welcome the deeper character development in Dexter's novels." --Chicago Sun-Times Beautiful Sylvia Kaye and another young woman had been seen hitching a ride not long before Sylvia's bludgeoned body is found outside a pub in Woodstock, near Oxford. Morse is sure the other hitchhiker can tell him much of what he needs to know. But his confidence is shaken by the cool inscrutability of the girl he's certain was Sylvia's companion on that ill-fated September evening. Shrewd as Morse is, he's also distracted by the complex scenarios that the murder set in motion among Sylvia's girlfriends and their Oxford playmates. To grasp the painful truth, and act upon it, requires from Morse the last atom of his professional discipline. "Few novelists write books as intelligent and deliciously frightening as those by Colin Dexter. . . . What Mr. Dexter does so well, so brilliantly, is weave a thick, cerebral story chock-full of literary references and clever red herrings." --The Washington Times "A MASTERFUL CRIME WRITER WHOM FEW OTHERS MATCH.
Woodstock: The Director's Cut (Widescreen) "Woodstock" set the standard for all rockumentaries to come. Sensing that the now-legendary 1969 "Woodstock" concert would be something more than a mere "happening", director Michael Wadleigh brought along a battalion of cinematographers and assistants. As a result, what could have been an aloof, detached record of the landmark concert is as "up close and personal" as it was possible to get without actually being there. Utilizing widescreen, splitscreen, and stereo-sound technology to the utmost, Wadleigh puts us right in the middle of the 400,000 screaming, mud-caked spectators, then zooms in to loving closeups of the stars. Edited by Martin Scorsese (among many others), the finished product won the 1970 Oscar for Best Documentary-and was also stamped with an "R" rating due to some innocuous (by 1990s standards) nudity and profanity. The talent lineup includes Canned Heat, Richie Havens, Country Joe and the Fish, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, David Crosby and Stephen Stills, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Arlo Guthrie, John Sebastian, Sly and the Family Stone, Ten Years After and Sha Na Na. The original 184 minute running time was expanded to 224 minutes for the 1994 video version, featuring previously excised footage of Janis Joplin. One of our favorite shots in Woodstock has no music at all: the final image, as a group of dour policemen survey the garbage and debris left behind by the Woodstock Naton.
Woodstock of physics - The term "woodstock of physics" is the expression often used by physicists (and was originally dubbed as such by an article in the New York Times) to refer to the celebrated session of the American Physical Society’s March meeting in 1987 which led to a "marathon" of presentations concerning the science of high-temperature superconductors. Good Times, Bad Times - "Good Times, Bad Times" is the first song by British Rock band Led Zeppelin, on their 1969 debut album Led Zeppelin. The band played this song at their live shows until 1970. New Times LA - New Times LA is a now-defunct alternative weekly newspaper, published in Los Angeles, until 2002, by the New Times Media corporation. New Times Media continues to publish other New Times-titled publications, including Miami New Times, New Times Broward-Palm Beach (commonly known as New Times BPB), and Phoenix New Times. Woodstock II - Woodstock II is an unofficial name most commonly associated with the Woodstock '94 festival, a major concert with commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Woodstock festival. However it can also -- and technically more correctly -- refer to Woodstock '89, a lesser-known festival which was a spontaneous commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Woodstock, but had less attendees and featured lesser-known acts than Woodstock '94.
